Today we celebrate

Today we celebrate 2 events:

1) Jake's 1st birthday. As I held him tonight I spent an extra few minutes reminiscing on the past 365 days! I catch myself telling others now to try and "soak it all in"; try and soak up even the small things, like the way they smell or that first smile, and tuckthem awayto pull out when you needan added reasonto smile! There is something about the 2nd child that allows you the opportunity to do just that...soak it all in. Of course I can't remember every detail but I can proudly say that being more relaxed with Jake allowed me to cherish the small things. I guess it is the comfort in knowing that you are not going to break them! This allows you the freedom to actually enjoy all that comes with the 1st year.

Jake has brought us so much joy. Yes, his laugh is one that could compete with any You Tube video out there for "best laugh"; but when I think of joy, I think of it on a whole otherlevel...true contentment, satisfaction, fulfillment. He has taught us all so much and to that we celebrate today, March 22nd, 2011.

2) We also took a moment today to celebrate Kate's 1 year anniversary of being a big sister. We could not have made it through these past 365 days without her love, patience, and helping hand. We often wondered during the 10 months of pregnancy how she was going to adapt to sharing our attention and to say that she exceeded our expectations is an understatement. Her teacher stopped me today in the hallway to say that there has not been one day go by that Kate has not asked one of the teachers how Jake was doing in his class. She is proud of her little brother and is often more excited about his accomplishments than we are. I guess this helps explain how we were able to so thoroughly enjoy the past year.

Oh how we hate to see this weather go

The past several days have been tremendous...70+ degrees and sunny! We hate to see the beautiful weather leave. This past weekend we spent as much time as possible outside! The local playgrounds and our neighborhood streets had extra activity as we tried to get out and about every possible minute to enjoy the sunshine!

Here are a few pictures from our trip to Lexington on Saturday. We tried to pack in as much activity as possible - a visit with my mom, Carolyn, and The Farmer's at the store, lunch and the UK game with Aunt Granny and Uncle Pal, and Ava's 4th birthday party. Kate and Jake both enjoyed the action packed day.

Happy Birthday Ava! It is hard to believe sweet Ava is already 4.

Chunk of love

You don't get to be 25 pounds at 11 months by doing nothing. Jake is the little man that could...the little man that could quite possibly eat us out of the house. We had to capture these pictures from our spaghetti and meatball dinner last week. Can you believe this mess? Needless to say he went straight from the highchair to the tub. He has loved every food that he has tried. From his 1st bite of avacado at 6 months to his full bowl of spaghetti last week, he has eaten like a champ. His 8 teeth are serving him well as he can make his way through just about anything. He is also over letting anyone else attempt to feed him from a spoon/fork...hands only!

I can only imagine what he will look like as he digs into his cake in 2 weeks. I am already smiling at the thought!

Spring Fever

A little 60 degree weather brings out the best in us all! We had a busy weekend as usual, full of everything from a birthday party to a playdate to a little time at the park! From the time we woke up on Saturday morning to the time we went to bed this evening, Kate asked if she could go out and ride her bike! This allowed Jake a lot of stroller time and the dogs a few more walks that usual! What a refreshing weekend. There is nothing like spring!

Here are a few pictures from the park this afternoon! Jake was a little weary of the swing at first, but soon got the hang of it! I have a feeling we will be spending quite a bit of time on our side patio to push the little man in the swing!

Hope everyone has a great week. We are looking forward the the 60's again later in the week! YEA!

Crawling like a champ

As Jake approaches 1 year, he is steadily advancing with new milestones. He is crawling like a champ now and it is too cute for words. As you can see in the video, he can go just about anywhere he puts his mind to. He LOVES the freedom he has in the basement and we put that area to good use.

He is eating anything and everything. Just look at his arms in that 18 month onsie. I can't seem to get enough of his little rolls. I know they will be gone before I know it so I just try and take in the sweetness each time I get to change or dress him. I remember Kate looking the same way and now she is so tall and slender.

Enjoy the video!
